GIAHS Scientific and Steering Committee meeting to set next steps
FAO headquarters, Rome (Italy) - The GIAHS Secretariat is holding a joint Scientific and Steering Committee Meeting from 29 to 30 October 2012, at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy. The meeting seeks to provide an opportunity for discussion between GIAHS pioneering countries and GIAHS new members and partners, to seek their advice and identify ways and means to further develop and sustain the interest of major agricultural heritage stakeholders as well as to take stock of the lessons learned and achievements of FAO in this endeavour.
The meeting discussion shall focus on:
(i) The existing GIAHS Partnership Framework and Operational Guidelines;
(ii) Policy visioning, governance mechanisms and defining areas of partnerships and of collaboration, particularly in the direction of policy advocacy, public awareness, R&D, education and mobilization of resources;
(iii) Setting priorities in education, research and development themes; and
(iv) The International Forum on Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems to be held in Japan next year, in May 2013.
